Why you should get your car serviced

Car servicing is essential
Getting your car serviced can be seen as as just another cost in todays expensive world. But not getting your car service carried out at the correct time can be a false economy. It can end up costing you much more in the long run. Just because your car has an MOT certificate does not mean it’s well maintained. An Mot only certifies that the car is safe to a minimum legal standard on the day of the test. A valid MOT is not a guarantee that your car is roadworthy for the rest of the year.
The benefits of car servicing
As I have said car servicing can be seen as just another bill to be paid. Servicing your car has it’s plus points though. Regular car maintenance keeps your car running efficiently and economically. A well maintained car uses less fuel and keeps wear and tear to a minimum.
Regularly serviced cars as are also less likely to breakdown and cause you inconvenience. Cars breaking down can be expensive, not only in costly emergency repairs, but also in terms of lost time, missed appointments etc.
The costs of not getting your car serviced
Here at Hilltop Service Garage we service all makes and models of cars and vans. When we service cars and vans we see all sorts of faults that can be easily repaired and could prevent a costly breakdown. After all prevention is better than cure - and who wants to have anxious thoughts about breaking down?
This may be something as simple as spotting a nail or screw in one of your tyres that could easily turn into a puncture or even in the worst case scenario cause a tyre to “blow out”.
We have seen more serious defects that could have caused dreadful problems had they not been fixed.
An example of that is one customer’s car that had not been serviced for a couple of years came in and was inspected by one of our vehicle technicians. During the course of that inspection he discovered that the front brakes were almost worn out. The front brake pads were so worn that almost all the friction material had worn away and the remainder had overheated and was breaking up.
Had this customer had to make an emergency stop the brake pads could have failed completely, leaving him with dangerous brakes that would not have stopped him. He could have been involved in a major accident, not only damaging his car but also potentially causing injury to himself and others.
Serious as that is, if the car was found to be poorly maintained his insurance company would have declined to pay out. Leaving him effectively uninsured.
